The scanner works great, but the software does not work all that great like they say it does. You have to wind up rewriting most of the information it puts in about your receipts and documents. Sometimes it gets close enough, but most of the time you have to do a lot of changing your self.
I have a Neat Desk Scanner, with Neat software Version 5. Every time I try to use it I cannot get into the scanner or software.
If I try to contact them online Firefox sends a message it has stopped working, Internet explorer says it has stopped working. I finally get thru to contact them, send all my information and it will work for the one time I follow the directions but it takes days and sometime weeks before I can get into my scanned files. I am working on taxes now and cannot get into my files. I am also receiving an error message when I reboot now that says, 'the catalyst control center' is not working when windows finds a solution to the problem they will get back with me. This has been going on this entire year. Do you have any suggestions for me? At this point I cannot even get thru to Neat.
Thank you for your input, please. The Neat software MAY (and I don't use this product) scan the image in as a Graphics File, then OCR's it into some proprietary format that Neat Software uses. But I wonder if the Graphics File still exists? Which folder?' Is probably answered within the Neat software's Options or Setup menus.) Of course, if OCRing is necessary then, well. The graphics file itself will have a limited usefulness. DavidGP's comments about JAVA and FLASH seem appropriate, or perhaps this is another of the Net Framework potholes to stumble thru.
Can you also provide a link into the NEAT SOFTWARE site and maybe we can see for ourselves what it 'needs' for JAVA, FLASH, etc? (I have customers using another tax-program and it has Adobe requirements - Flash, Acrobat and a few others. A real pain.). I am assuming you have been using the Neat system for a long time and just this year began to have the problem. My question would be, so do you believe the catalyst problem and the Neat problem could be linked (troubles started very close together)? If you believe this, it would be too much coincidence to ignore for me.
I guess my suspicion would start with a program update or Windows updates as the source of the problem if so. Then I would check the Catalyst software to make sure it's up to date. Then I would try pulling the graphics card to see if maybe it's the problem. You do have a Windows tool in your arsenal in System Restore.
If you have a restore point back to before the trouble started, you could try it. Won't lose any files.installed programs installed after the restore point date are removed but not personal files.
